Surprise! Surprise! No one (well, no one with a standard schedule, that is) knew that Audio Active were gonna drop by for an extended set in the Red Marquee on the final night of Fuji Rock. Sure, they'd done a few cameos here and there with Asian Dub Foundation and Adrian Sherwood, but... a whole undiluted set o' big audio activity was a treat indeed. I have a special respect for these guys - after my first 10-odd years in Japan, this was the first local band I saw who took my breath away. Deep heavy dub, a bit more lucid of late, like they know their instruments backwards, is what they play. And thanks to them (and their manager, Ray Hearn) a new generation of hip, internationaly competent independent Japanese bands had the courage to make a start. Love these guys. Sorry the pics aren't better.
