Tent City

"I got lost for three hours" and other stories from the camping area

Actually, this is a report about tenting fashion. If Fujirock were Shibuya, its shoppers would not be in the 109, they'd be in the Sports Authority, and they wouldn't be buying minidresses and street lingerie, they'd be buying Colemans. And as with some fashion trends, bigger means better.

Particularly impressive was this Coleman Screen + 2Room DXL, which was large enough to park a minivan inside. It's the largest variety.

Moving down into the mere gigantic 25-man tent range, you have this Tough Wide Dome 300. Moving down the series, you also found the BC Light Dome Tent 300 Skyroof, the BC Light Dome 270 and the BC Light Dome 270 Wide. Tan and forest green are the in colors, though tan and navy blue and tan and maroon are there for variety.

After Coleman, top brands included Marmot, Snow Peak and Captain Stag. You can guess what my mother will be getting for Christmas.

And getting back to my subhed, I did in fact meet someone who wandered around the camping area from midnight to 3am last night looking for her brand new tent -- "It was a Coleman, of course." -- which was like looking for one particular pine tree in the middle of a forest. The strategy was to knock on every tent flap where she heard people speaking Engish, and out of this she eventually found a spliff... but in the end it was only by freakish chance that she found her bed. Which is why I'm including these two photos -- they show fledgling efforts (masking tape) at creating a tent city address system. The one on the right simply says "Here," while the one on the left identifies itself with the character for "Meat." If only it was a Captain Stag!
