Less Than Jake

Kickin' Up Some Dust

Less Than Jake, a 5-piece band mixing ska and punk from Gainesville, Florida, raised one helluva ruckus on the White Stage on Saturday afternoon.

It wasn't just the infectious ska-groove (something that Fuji Rock audiences simply adore) but also good natured humor. For example, the band rolled out to introduction that was eerily reminiscent of the game show "The Price is Right" and continued with the comedy by pulling one member out of the audience who was wearing an oversized afro-wig. Not stopping there, the band then tried to make a love connection, by pairing this man with a female member of the audience.

When it came to music, however, the band was all business, ripping through a set that included hits such as "All My Best Friends Are Metalheads" and "Overrated (Everything Is)"

Then, things got a little weird as the band implored everyone to start a circle pit, one that would extend beyond the soundstage and include, umm, like a whole s*&% load of people. Enough for me to back off and run for cover. In the end, they closed it with an ode to their hometown "Gainesville Rock City". Proving that everything good starts at home.
