Bobin

An Anthem For The Masses?

Seated in front of Gypsy Avalon's rainbow banner, Nepal-born, but longtime Japan resident, Bobin seemed right at home as he played material from his new disc, Rainbow Vibration. The only thing that could have been more welcoming would have been a real rainbow. Unfortunately, Bobin and the Avalon audience had to make do with a sky full of dark clouds and as the show progressed a light sprinkling of rain instead. Maybe someone can pull some strings with mother nature and try and get him one for his next Fuji visit.

Armed with an acoustic guitar, he was joined onstage by an electric guitarist and percussionist. The two Japanese musicians added subtle instrumentation that fleshed out the tracks, but never overpowered them. Singing in English, Bobin's chilled out songs brought to mind the work of Jack Johnson. His strong voice travelled to the far reaches of Avalon's grassy hill on cuts like "Let Me Sleep," which could probably serve as an anthem of sorts for those exhausted Fuji rockers who have been giving their all since Thursday eve.
