Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks

Indie music god plays in a driving rain

A hard driving rain, like it must have been coming down at 30 degrees, did little to keep back hardcore fans of Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Admittedly, most were probably Pavement fans, thought Malkmus has does merit other consideration with his 4 releases since leaving the band. On tour this year, he has been joined by former Sleater-Kinney drummer, Janet Weiss. The rest of the group are familiar faces. His set included faves like "Baby C'mon" and "Samurai Time of Your Life".

The set was mostly tuneful and not disappointing. Still it did leave some people wanting Malkmus to play a few Pavement hits, something he has largely avoided since recording his first album as well as other releases by the Jicks. Photos by Izumi Kumazawa
