Who stole my lolipop?
Well, Sunshine Love Steel Band didn't bring the sunshine, but they brought the steel drums (three of them), and, you'd like to think, they brought the looove. Like Amateur Night at the Jamaican Apollo, they worked through charming, quietly chiming covers of "Over the Rainbow," "Come take a ride with me on my magical balloon" and "Summertime" from Porgy & Bess, the 20th-century opera about a poor invalid who rides a goat cart to New York (if one more band covers "Summertime" this weekend, I'll add where he goes from and why).
I don't think I've ever heard steel drums sound so soft before.
